Good SEO Practices

Im sure you have searched for things in the past and came up with search results that were not exactly relevant.  That’s because of search engine optimizers working with web pages to skew the results for their clients. But the search engines are really good at adjusting themselves and giving more accuraute results…they are always on the change.

The best thing to do is stick with the “whitehat”, tried and true optimization techniques.  Good search engine optimization will always come out better after a revision of the search engine algorithm.

A Few of the Good SEO Practices

On Page Factors: I have a many post about on page factors already, so I’m just going to cut to the chase here.  Just remember, good content, a page title that matches the content, and an h1 tag that matches the content.  Use your best keyword in all of these.

Link Building: Links, as far as search engines are concerned, are votes for your site.  So a site with more links back to it will score higher in the search ranking algorythm.  Its important to note you want to try and build links with relative and good quality sites.  Also have title text in the link thats relative to the content on your page.  For example, Atlanta Web Design Firm is much better than see our site.

Social Media: Social media is a new one that is starting to gain an important place in the search world.  Many of the other factors, such as link building, can be skewed.  But the human factor, built by the social networks, are much harder to skew.  In December of 2010, Bing and Google confirmed that links shared through the social networks would have a direct effect on the page’s ranking.

So Where Do I Start?

Well, by doing your homework you have already started.  If you don’t have a Facebook business page and a Twitter account, start by setting those up and adding your profiles.  Just by doing that you will gain a couple links back to your site.
